Missouri Cookies - Depression Era No Bake Recipe

These easy no-bake cookies are a favorite of our youngest and a delicious treat anytime of year. Easy to make without having to heat up your oven or your house, they are made with a few basic ingredients and won't last long when your family sees them! Known by many names, you may have known these as Preacher Cookies, Cow Paddies or Chocolate Fiddle Diddles. Whatever you call them, these easy to make cookies will be ready in about 15 minutes without ever turning on your oven!

Equipment

  • 1 Sauce Pan
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Waxed paper You'll use the wax paper to drop your cookies on until they set up

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 3 tbsp Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup Peanut butter
  • 3 cups Quick Oats you can use rolled oats for a chewier cookie

Instructions
 

  • Combine Sugar, Cocoa, butter and milk into your saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Boil hard for 1 minute then remove from heat
  • Add vanilla, peanut butter and quick oats; mix well
  • Drop by spoon onto waxed paper
  • Let sit 10-15 minutes
